Guardians of the Deep Nature Centre

“Through the Tempest, we must stand for the Seas

Founded in June 2019, Guardians of the Deep is a local community-driven organisation that is dedicated to education, connection to nature, and collective action. Blending art, science and storytelling to empower students to combine local knowledge and practical experience with research and conservation to enhance their skill set, discover opportunities and broaden their future horizons. Marine Science and Nature Conservation is explored through holiday programmes, school camps, outings, after-school clubs and public talks to foster a stronger bond between Cape Town communities and the incredible natural spaces surrounding the city. Sharing essential knowledge, we aim to create a restorative conservation network to safeguard Cape Town’s numerous marine and terrestrial habitats.
We live on a marine rich coastline. And with ecological wealth, comes individual and collective responsibility.

Take Action Today

  1. Donate money towards our Nature Centre so that we can offer immersive conservation experiences to more children across Cape Town and amplify our impact
  2. Book us for school outings, public talks, our Trailblazers Camp and our Krakens and Chacma Champions holiday programmes to support our efforts in protecting the planet
  3. Make small changes – swap single-use materials for reusable items

The ocean is in crisis, and the time to act is now.
Let’s start at home and turn the tide together.

Our Core Values
Nature ~ Restoring the connection between people and the environment
Education ~ Providing access to crucial scientific knowledge
Community ~ Constructing a conservation network by connecting communities from a myriad of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds

“Forests are our planet’s green lung but oceans are its blue heart. It is now up to all of us to keep the blue heart beating” - Karmenu Vella
